Kant was something of a late bloomer in philosopher, especially when compared to the other German idealists and romantics whom he is a sort of father of: Fichte and Schelling were famous by their early and mid-twenties, Hegel by his mid-thirties, but Kant did not garner his reputation until the 1780s and already in his fifties. As such, we’re going to explore the prefaces (17) and introduction to Kant’s great work: The Critique of Pure Reason. Both sides will claim Kant when it suits them and both sides will toss him out when it suits them. He situates himself in the nexus of the Enlightenment and Counter-Enlightenment sometimes he is seen as a schizophrenic figure who is at once in both camps. Immanuel Kant is a philosopher of profound consequence and importance.

It contains some of his best- known runes, including numerous in verse forms new to Bengali, as well as some social and political lampoon that was critical of his fellow Bengalis. There he published several books of poetry in the 1880s and completed Manasi (1890), a collection that marks the growing of his genius. The son of the religious reformer Debendranath Tagore, he beforehand began to write verses, and, after deficient studies in England in the late 1870s, he returned to India. In 1913 he came the firstnon-European to admit the Nobel Prize for Literature. But when someone else compares one of my books to his, and if that someone is a person who knows his stuff (and Mark Justice does), you can bet your rump I’m going to devote a blog post to it. Of course, it goes without saying-even though I’m saying it-that I’m not claiming my writing is equal to Laymon’s or that I consider myself in his class. I spoke at length about him in this article and, interestingly enough, in the Acknowledgments page of Savage Species. He’s considered one of the best horror writers of the eighties and nineties, and despite his tragic and far-too-early passing in 2001, he remains one of the most read, one of the most beloved, and one of the most influential horror authors in the genre. What a lovely thing to wake up to! Most of you reading this blog will be familiar with the name Richard Laymon. Reading SAVAGE SPECIES by is like discovering a lost Richard Laymon novel. Additionally, the book incorporates portions of several other documents not part of the original text, such as the story of Maeglin. These five parts were initially separate works, but it was the elder Tolkien's express wish that they be published together. The beasts and birds populating this contemporary artist's life-size paintings are never mere objects, but dynamic actors in allegorical struggles: a wild turkey crushes a small parrot in its claw a troupe of monkeys wreak havoc on a formal dinner table, an American buffalo is surrounded by bloodied white wolves. But a closer look reveals a complex and disturbingly anthropomorphic universe, full of symbols, sly jokes, and allusions to the 'operatic' nature of traditional natural history themes. This technique-the evocation of loss on one level to imply an unspeakably more profound loss beneath-is one Rose frequently employs. Ostensibly referring to her uncertainty about what to do with his belongings, the narrator is also confronting an existential fact she has arrived at loss and seemingly has nowhere else to go. In 11 bare-bones, free verse poems, Rose (Heavy Bags of Soul, 2012) refines a yearslong grieving process into a heartbreakingly potent distillate of sorrow.“I am at a loss,” declares Rose’s bereft narrator after her husband’s death. The 205-page book goes into great detail on the art of long-term world travel and is not only informative, but inspiring, educational, and thought-provoking as well. When Tim Ferriss, author of The 4-Hour Workweek, suggested I read Rolf Potts’ Vagabonding, I immediately picked up a copy… and I suggest you do too!
